Diablo IV Beta - Early Access (Initial Thoughts)

I have very fond memories/nightmares of the original Diablo, being one of the first games I played on a

friend's older brother's PlayStation 1 console when I was about 14 years old. I vividly remember 'The Butcher' and being scared out of my mind when he came running after you if you went anywhere near his dungeon...I was both terrified and amazed.

Fast forward the years, and I've pre-ordered Diablo 2 and 3 and put endless hours of my life into these games, always chasing slightly better gear.

Loading into Diablo IV we had the traditional lengthy cinematic trailer introducing you to the storyline, which seems to have had a lot more effort put in over previous games, and then you head on to the 'campfire'. This is something I truly appreciate. It's something simple but it's become such a familiar part of selecting your character, that it just wouldn't feel the same without it.

I very quickly realised how much has gone into this game, right from the character creation screen you can see an immense level of detail in the characters and their surroundings, so much that they were able to use real-time gameplay for many of the cut scenes instead of always having to use CGI.

We went with a Sorcerer and headed on our journey into hell. We won't give away too much, as we know so many of you are eager and waiting to get into the Open Beta this weekend, and you won't be disappointed.

From the well-delivered storyline that we got to experience, to the combat, skill trees and loot drops...it all felt familiar, but so greatly improved upon. A big thing that's been added is timed world events (massive bosses with epic loot drops), unfortunately, we missed the spawns that occurred during early access but will be making sure to get in on one this weekend. Did you get hands-on in Early Access? We want to hear your thoughts on our socials!
