Monster Jam: Showdown Review

Monster Jam: Showdown Review

I've always been a fan of monster trucks, so I was excited to get my hands on Monster Jam: Showdown. From the moment I strapped into the driver's seat of the infamous Grave Digger, I was hooked. This game transported me to the heart of that massive machine, where I could almost feel the roar of the crowd and the rumble of the engine.

I'll start by saying, Monster Jam: Showdown is a great addition to the racing genre, offering a thrilling and accessible Monster Truck experience for players of all ages and skill levels. With the games intuitive controls, stunning visuals, and some pretty fun multiplayer modes, it's shaped up as a must-play for fans of the Monster Jam series and everyday racing fans alike.

Grave Digger

The gameplay is super easy to pick up and play, making it accessible to both casual and experienced gamers. The difficulty settings and accessibility options ensure that everyone can enjoy the game, regardless of their skill level with settings that can change the game from a high-level sim feel, to steering, acceleration and braking assists that make it much more arcade like and beginner friendly. The short levels and game modes make it easy to jump in and out of the game, making it perfect whether you're up for a short gaming session or hours of fun with friends.

The split-screen multiplayer mode was a highlight of the game for me, this mode will provide hours of fun racing against friends or simply messing around in the stunt stadiums. My partner and I spent way too long playing split screen over the weekend trying to out-race and out-maneuver each other with some pretty wild stunts. The ability to unlock more than 60 new trucks and 140+ skins add an extra layer of customization and replayability to the game.

The visuals in Monster Jam: Showdown are pretty impressive, showcasing the power of the Xbox Series X|S consoles. The detailed trucks and environments create a stunning and immersive experience truly brought to life by Unreal Engine 5. The physics engine is also hitting the marks, making the trucks feel incredibly responsive and powerful and probably as close as you can get to the real thing.

Megaladon

Overall, Monster Jam: Showdown is some of the most fun I've had playing a video game recently. With its easy to pick up gameplay, immersive environments, and endless fun multiplayer modes, I'd recommend this game to everyone.

The game earns a solid 9 out of 10 rating from me, making it one of my most enjoyable gaming experiences of 2024, so far.

Thanks to the team at Milestone, we received a code for Monster Jam: Showdown on Xbox Series S to dive in over the weekend and let's just say, I spent a lot more time in the driver's seat than initially intended.
